DSLR - Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera
Ever wondered why the pictures you take do not resemble what you were looking at? This is a fun course what will take you through the technical and creative process of making great images. From great pictures of the kids to your next photographic adventure to the end of the Earth, this course will teach you to control the camera and create images that make you proud.
This class runs for 6 weeks over an 7-8 week period with a field trip in the mid/end of the course then the class meets again to discuss their photos.
Participants need to have a camera that has manually controlled exposure.
Class will involve mainly classroom work as well as a field trip to be arranged during first session.

Giora Dan is an internationally published documentary & commercial photographer based in Christchurch New Zealand. He is an experienced photographic educator, having taught at tertiary level for ‘The Design and Art College’ (Christchurch). He regularly lectures in tertiary institutions and secondary schools. He has also taught a range of community education programmes. Giora has worked on a variety of documentary assignments ranging from low lying Pacific atolls to mountain monasteries in Asia. His images have been widely published in geographical magazines in North America, Europe, Africa and the Asia/Pacific region, including NZ Geographic, the Smithsonian Magazine Geo and British Geographical. He has worked for the International Federation of the Red Cross/Crescent on projects focusing on raising awareness of global warming in the Pacific region. Giora’s commercial and advertising photography is as diverse as his documentary work. He loves food photography (a personal passion) and classic automotive photography (ditto). He also has a reputation for edgy and creative work in both architectural and fashion photography. His New Zealand based clients range from small fashion houses to large national and international manufacturers. No classes on public holidays.
All courses need a minimum number to go ahead. If your course does not have enough enrolments, we regret that we will have to cancel and will let you know either by email or text. Please check your emails regularly. Courses are usually confirmed or cancelled 2-3 working days prior to the scheduled start date.
We may, regretfully, have to cancel courses if we do not receive enough enrolments, in which case you will get a full refund.
We may choose to close a course if there is a high level of non-attendance or withdrawals, in which case a proportional refund may be made.
Wherever possible, we will offer replacement or extended sessions to make up for sessions cancelled due to extreme weather, tutor illness or other unforeseen reason.
If you need to withdraw from a course and you inform us in writing, at least a week before the course is due to start, you will be eligible for a refund minus a $20 administration charge.
If you withdraw from a course at any other time, you will not be eligible for a refund. No refunds are given after commencement of a course to ensure course viability.
