Gail Zing is an award-winning writer from Aotearoa New Zealand. She is author of three collections of poetry – anthology (n.) a collection of flowers (Pūkeko Publications 2024), Some Bird (Sudden Valley Press 2023) and Contents Under Pressure (Pūkeko Publications 2019). In 2024, Some Bird was selected for Best NZ Poetry Books by The NZ Listener. Her poems and short fiction have been published widely in Aotearoa and overseas in such places as Poetry Aotearoa, Cordite Poetry Review, Poems for the Planet, Blue Nib, The Spinoff Friday Poem, Landfall and others. In 2025, she was poet in residence at Robert Lord Cottage in Ōtepoti Dunedin.
When she’s not dreaming up poems in the hills she’s tramping, she edits freelance from the kitchen table or she teaches creative writing at Write On School for Young Writers in her hometown of Ōtautahi Christchurch. She has a Master of Creative Writing from Massey University.
