Introduction to Fly Tying

Introduction to Fly Tying

This is an introductory course that will cover techniques applicable to all styles of trout flies, including nymphs, soft hackle and winged wet flies, emergers, various style lures and dry flies.  The techniques taught can be combined to create a wide variety of trout flies.  You will certainly be able to fool trout with your own creations at the end of this course and you will also be able to tailor patterns to suit particular angling situations.

You will catch more trout and enjoy it more using your own flies!

Students are to supply their own materials but some fur and feathers will be available in the classes.  Advice for the collection of additional materials will be provided.

About your tutor

I am recently retired from a career as a botanical researcher. I have fly fished with my own flies since adolescence (and with worms since before then). For the past thirty five years I have fished mostly in New Zealand, but have fly fished in many other regions including South America, North America, Tasmania and Europe. I love Fly Tying, particularly on rainy winter days, and enjoy introducing others to this hobby.
