Students who have attended Beginners Pottery for at least 3 terms will find this class a good step to extend their pottery skills.
Intermediate students will take part in this 8 week program designed with fixed projects to explore and extend main ways of making and decorating in ceramics. During this course students will continue to build on their basic technical grounding while applying their own design inspirations using the tools and materials provided. Each term will have different and diverse projects planned.
Sessions will include health and safety, basics on kiln firing, recycling your clay, colour and glaze, decorating and developing your own unique style.
Over the year, the hand building and throwing blocks will vary term to term so that at the end of the year, students will have had the opportunity to explore most shapes and techniques.
Students will be required to purchase an Intermediate Pottery kit that will include specialty tools, colour to extend on their BEGINNERS pack which is put together for their classes. These kits are to be purchased from the tutor in the first class or additional add on items for your kit - $35 maximum.
A Work Booklet is available to purchase for $20 as a fundraiser to support the Doris Lusk Artist in Residence and the Pottery Master classes, details of these classes are available in the booklet and will be discussed in class.
Pottery has many chemicals and materials that are hazardous – so if you are either pregnant or health impaired, you need to let your tutor know so that she can advise you on best practice.
Cost of clay and firing etc is not covered in the course fee and will be advised on your first night but expect to spend a minimum of $25 over the 8 weeks. This will depend on what you are making.
Students need to choose the day of the week they wish to attend e.g. enrol in the Monday class and attend this class on Mondays for the remainder of the term. This does not mean that you attend any other time or day of the week.

All courses need a minimum number to go ahead. If your course does not have enough enrolments, we regret that we will have to cancel and will let you know either by email or text. Please check your emails regularly. Courses are usually confirmed or cancelled 2-3 working days prior to the scheduled start date.
We may, regretfully, have to cancel courses if we do not receive enough enrolments, in which case you will get a full refund.
We may choose to close a course if there is a high level of non-attendance or withdrawals, in which case a proportional refund may be made.
Wherever possible, we will offer replacement or extended sessions to make up for sessions cancelled due to extreme weather, tutor illness or other unforeseen reason.
If you need to withdraw from a course and you inform us in writing, at least a week before the course is due to start, you will be eligible for a refund minus a $20 administration charge.
If you withdraw from a course at any other time, you will not be eligible for a refund. No refunds are given after commencement of a course to ensure course viability.
