Yoga, pathway to inner peace

Doreen Lehmann believes yoga is an ideal mix of relaxation and exercise.

“Yoga is something that brings both the body and mind together.  While you can get a good workout in a gym, with yoga you can also assimilate energy. It can help on both a physical and emotional level and allow healing to happen.”

Lehmann will run a nine-week Art of Yoga class at Christchurch Girls’ High School next term.

“It offers benefits for all ages, in particular it gives people more flexibility and helps them sleep better.”

She teaches Hatha Yoga.

It is designed to release stress and tension and to promote flexibility, vitality and relaxation.  It is an art that recognizes the necessary union between the body, mind and spirit that brings inner peace.”

Lehmann’s programme is adjusted to suit the classes’ needs and postures are adapted to suit individual ability. The exercises are easy to practice and students are encouraged to notice how they feel in various postures, and information about the value of different postures is given, she says.

“Every posture has a particular meaning and each of them stimulates a different part of the anatomy.”

Art of Yoga will be held at 5.30pm on Thursday evenings from July 20th.
