In most cases classes will be taught by the tutor named in the brochure/website on the dates stated. We make every effort to make our programme as accurate as possible at the time of printing. We do, however, reserve the right to make any changes that may be necessary.

This course will cover basic to more advanced Dressmaking, depending on the skills of each pupil. It is a fun approach to constructing fashionable, well-fitted garments and has a particular emphasis on reviving dressmaking skills which may have lain dormant for many years!

This course aims to build confidence in sewing skills. It may be basic sewing – mending, altering garments, finishing a project already started, making cushions, duvets, throws, even restructuring vintage garments – anything is possible!

These classes provide for the more experienced embroiderer as well for the beginner. Students work on projects of their own choosing in an informal and social environment. Projects are usually based on traditional forms using a wide range of fabrics and threads.

This is an Embroidery Class with an emphasis on samplers. The course will look at historical samplers, stitches etc. and will equip students to work a sampler of their own choice. Samplers covered will include Band, Pictorial, Crazy Samplers, Birth Samplers, Miniature Samplers and Sampler Xmas Stockings.

This course will cover the basics of Cottage garden Embroidery in the form of a sampler of flowers. It will provide the basics so students will be able to go on to compile projects of their own choice, including boxes, hussifs, jewellery rolls, knot gardens and pictures. We also accommodate embroiderers who have been coming for some time and need a supportive and encouraging environment to explore individual projects.

EMBROIDERED BLANKET MAKING (Family Heirloom) J

An opportunity to create a family heirloom to be handed down through your family. Learn to embellish a woollen blanket with various embroidery stitches and other design features to create a simple but beautiful gift for a child or grandchild. Students will complete one blanket, although the skills learned will enable you to continue on with future projects.

Come along and see what you can do with a sewing machine, an over-locker, a needle and thread, some fabulous ideas and enjoyable company. A chance to make garments of your choice with everyone working on individual projects. In this group we make both children’s and adults’ clothing, we do sewing repairs and problem solving, make drapes and cushions, learn smocking, tailoring and how to adjust patterns to fit properly. Come and join our enthusiastic and friendly group.

FUN BABY CREATIONS
(for parents to be, new parents or grandparents) J

Create practical and fun nursery decorations and some clothing such as bibs, bootees and toys. Let your creative instincts develop by learning simple and decorative techniques with fibres and fabrics. No sewing experience necessary but ability to sew would help. Tutor will guide but it is expected that students will purchase most of the material for their individual projects.

PATCHWORK & QUILTING (beg)

This beginners Patchwork and Quilting class is aimed at learning hand and machine methods of making a meter square wall hanging which will help participants to be able to go on to make any quilt using the techniques learned. Colour and patterns on fabric is also a major part of their design.

PATCHWORK: ADVANCED APPLIQUÉ

Hand stitch appliquéd flowers that could be made into the centre of a bed quilt, or a cushion cover, wall hanging or table cover. Learn about colour, fabric design, effects of light, medium and dark fabrics to make the flowers and leaves come alive - so ‘alive’ you will want to smell the flowers and pick them. It is recommended to have completed the Beginners Patchwork class.

SCREENPRINTING ON FABRIC – beginners

A very concentrated weekend course covering the basics of screen printing on fabric at a beginners level. Printing on fabric of your choice – t-shirts, clothing, canvas or fabric lengths. If you enjoy being creative and experiencing hands on learning or just want to try something different, come along and have some fun.

TRADITIONAL BOBBIN LACEMAKING – BEDFORDSHIRE

Location St Stephens, Burnside
After completing a short course in basic Bedfordshire or Torchon Lace, if appropriate, students are encouraged to choose their own lace patterns and thereafter progress at their own pace with help and guidance when required, aiming to incorporate new techniques as they work. The basic course only applies to beginners, who are always warmly welcome, although lapsed lace makers may also like to browse through the exercises to refresh their memories.

In this class, we teach beginners the basic skills and techniques of hand weaving and enable more advanced and experienced weavers the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge of colour, texture, patterns and techniques whilst completing individual projects.
