ESOL Academic Objectives
Level 3 and 4.
Students will further their academic reading and writing at a level that is generally easier than IELTS. Some IELTS materials may be used. Useful writing skills will be practised according to models e.g. making comparisons, cause and effect, the use of passives etc. A range of reading materials will be used. These will familiarise students with a ranges of themes and will introduce some essential academic vocabulary and terminology. Any student who can read with some competence at Pre-Intermediate level or higher can benefit from this course. It will be a useful preparation for later IELTS study and also good for students who already communicate with confidence but are seeking to develop their academic English and need to review their grammar. Students to bring a writing book e.g. 1B8, pen and pencils and a glue stick.
