ESOL Academic Objectives
Level 3 and 4.
This course will focus on reading and writing of academic English at a level easier than IELTS. Some IELTS materials may be used. Students will be familiarised with academic themes of current interest e.g. environment and sustainability, global demography, social issues etc. High frequency academic vocabulary will be considered along with essential and contemporary terminology. Dictations will guide towards greater accuracy in writing and typical academic writing will be teacher guided. Grammar will be addressed, in particular with a review of the usage of verb tenses. This course can be considered useful as a bridge to IELTS. Students to bring a writing book e.g. 1B8, pen, pencils and glue stick.
This class is offered on Thursday mornings at Risingholme and Thursday evenings at Riccarton High School.
