In most cases classes will be taught by the tutor named in the brochure/website on the dates stated. We make every effort to make our programme as accurate as possible at the time of printing. We do, however, reserve the right to make any changes that may be necessary.
A certificate of attendance is available to those students who attend 80% of their course.
BUYING A DIGITAL CAMERA

Is everybody but you using a digital camera? Do you find yourself overwhelmed by the choices? Then this is the session for you. This one-off session is for those who are about to embark on the digital photography journey and will deal with topics such as selecting and buying a digital camera. The tutor is employed in the photographic industry.

An introductory course designed for beginner digital photographers. Taking a photographer’s viewpoint, we look at the basics of using computers to transfer, store, catalogue, edit, rescue and archive digital photographs. We will also explore photo blogs and each member of the course will set up a photo blog of their own. You do not need to be an experienced computer user for this course. If you can create and edit a Word document, surf the Internet and send an e-mail you'll be fine.
The course is for PC users who have access to a computer running Microsoft Windows ME, 2000, or XP so you can practice between sessions. Students will need access to a digital camera, card reader or USB drive. It is limited to a maximum of 10 students.

COMPUTING FOR BEGINNERS

This course is designed for beginners who have access to a computer for practise between sessions. It is ideal for someone who prefers having a tutor on site to help and explain as opposed to individual online learning. Course content covers the basics of the latest versions of Windows, word-processing, e-mail and the Internet.

COMPUTING: MICROSOFT WORD INTERMEDIATE

This course is ideal for those who have attended Introduction to Computing and who have the basics of Microsoft Word but would like to learn more about mail merge and some of the more advanced functions of M/S Word. You must have some idea of how to lay out a basic letter, know a little bit about tables etc. The idea would be to work collaboratively together and have a bit of fun in the learning process.

Teaching people how to get more from their computer. Classes are small, informal and friendly; so there is lots of time for individual help. Topics will include Internet, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. The course will be tailored to suit the needs and interests of the group.

Create your own family or small business website. Using HTML you will require only notepad and your browser to create your website. The course also includes an introduction to CSS and JavaScript as well as how to upload your site onto the web and submit to search engines.

Made a website which is not quite what you hoped it would be? This course looks at ways of using JavaScript and CSS in combination with HTML to both improve the look of your website and to make it do things it does not currently do. Assumes a basic understanding of HTML, but you don’t need to already have a website.

SPREADSHEETS FOR BEGINNERS

Using Microsoft Excel, this course will suit beginners. Some knowledge of Windows will be assumed. Content: entering data, using auto sum, using the fill feature, creating simple budget sheets, formatting cells, making simple charts, using formulae.

Adobe Photoshop is the “industry standard” software programme used to enhance and manipulate digital images and photos. This vast programme is easily used by beginning students with a few hours of instruction and support. Absolutely everything you need to know to get started on your digital project. Past students rave about this course! Students should be familiar with PC and Windows. Bring own lunch.

An introduction to digital cameras and digital photography for those who are about to, or just have, embarked on the digital photography journey. No previous photographic experience is required and you don’t have to be a computer user. Those students who have a digital camera should bring it to the first class and subsequent classes. Students will need to spend between $20 and $30 during the course on prints from digital labs around the city. (limited spaces available)
